What is escrow?

Escrow means a trusted third party holds the money during a deal. With Jointpesa, the buyer pays into a secure account, the seller delivers, and the payment is released only once the buyer is satisfied.

Initiate the transaction

The buyer or seller starts a deal in the app and agrees on the item, price and terms.

Buyer deposits funds

The buyer pays into the secure Jointpesa account using M-Pesa or bank transfer.

Jointpesa holds the money

The seller can see the funds are secured, so there is no risk in delivering.

Seller delivers

The seller ships the item or completes the service.

Buyer confirms delivery

The buyer checks the goods or work and accepts the delivery in the app.

Funds are released

Jointpesa pays the seller as soon as the buyer confirms.

If the seller fails to deliver, or the item is not as described, the buyer can raise a dispute. Funds stay locked while our team investigates, and valid claims are refunded to the buyer.

Payment is released as soon as the buyer confirms delivery. It usually reaches the seller within minutes to a few hours, depending on the payout method.
